Documents governing our activities

The Swedish Security Service is a Government agency, which means that our activities are governed by the instructions, the letter of appropriations and the allocations we receive from the Government. We are also obliged to give the Government an account of our activities in the form of an annual report. In addition to this, and as required by the regulations applicable to government agencies, we submit an annual budget estimate to the Government. Each year, we also set out an activity plan for the Service.

What distinguishes the Security Service from other Government agencies is that most of the governing, planning and reporting documents are classified, on the grounds of national security. Of the ones mentioned above, only the instructions and the part of the letter of appropriations presenting the allocations are public documents.
