Offences related to national internal security 2001
The publication is also available in Swedish; “Brottslighet kopplad till rikets inre säkerhet 2001" . The report contains a presentation of statistics from 2001 concerning reported offences related to xenophobia, anti-Semitism, homophobia, White Power, the autonomous scene and animal rights activism.
In the period 1997 to 2004, the Swedish Security Service annually published statistics on reported offences related to national internal security. By Government decision, the responsibility for producing hate crime statistics was taken over in 2006 by the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention (Brottsförebyggande Rådet, Brå), which is why the Security Service no longer publishes this type of report. Several of our earlier reports are however accessible via our website.
White Power related offences fell dramatically
The number of offences rooted in White Power ideology fell significantly in 2001. This decrease was preceded by a corresponding increase in the year 2000. The violent crime rate fell from 9 to 6 per cent, whereas wilful damage and graffiti offences increased from 36 to 44 per cent. The major share of White Power related offences consisted in graffiti featuring Nazi symbols and in propaganda dissemination.A decline also in offences rooted in extreme left-wing ideologies
There was a declining tendency in offences with an anti-fascist or left-wing motive in 2001, following a strong increase in 2000. Graffiti was the most commonly committed offence in this category. To read PDF files you will need Adobe Reader. You can download it free of charge from the Adobe website.
