Man sentenced to prison for espionage against refugees


On the 20 December 2019, a man was convicted and sentenced to 2.5 years' imprisonment for "serious unlawful intelligence activities against the person" (espionage against refugees). The criminal investigation, headed by a national security prosecutor, has been run by the Security Service.

The man in question was charged with having unlawfully gathered information about a minority group in Sweden and abroad.

The Security Service makes every effort to prevent and counter espionage against refugees taking place in Sweden. Indications of such activities are always followed up and investigated. Such investigations are often complicated and time-consuming.
