Due to Sweden’s high level of civilian and military industrial
competence, certain players who are looking to develop weapons of mass destruction try to procure expertise or products from our country. Some of these products are subject to export restrictions if exported outside the EU. In some instances knowledge transfer is also regulated by law.
In counter-proliferation issues, we work closely with bodies such as Customs, the Agency for Non-Proliferation and Export Controls, the Defence Research Agency, the Radiation Safety Authority and the Armed Forces. We are also involved in international efforts to prevent the transfer of expertise and products from, or via, Sweden to those seeking to develop weapons of mass destruction. In addition, we seek to prevent various non-state players from accessing chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear weapons.
