Two individuals have been arrested by the Swedish Security Service in the Stockholm area. Both of them had been arrested in absentia prior to this.

One of the arrested individuals is suspected of gross unlawful intelligence activities against Sweden and gross unlawful intelligence activities against a foreign power. The other is suspected of being an accomplice to this.

In association with the arrests, searches of premises were carried out and a third individual was taken in for questioning. The Swedish Security Service was assisted in these actions by the Swedish Police Authority and the Swedish Armed Forces.

The criminal investigation leading up to the arrests has been going on for some time. It is being conducted by the Swedish Security Service and headed by a National Security Unit prosecutor. The remit of the Security Service is to protect Sweden and its democracy. This involves, among other things, taking action against threats to national security.

This case is not associated with any of the Service´s other cases.
